The IBTN extends a warm thank you to the generous sponsors and partners of the 2016 IBTN Conference held from May 19 to 21 in Montreal.
|The IBTN was delighted to offer three student awards for research excellence thanks to the contributions of its silver-level sponsors AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Janssen. Award winners were Adam Heenan (University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada), François Carbonnel (Université Paul Valéry, Montpellier, France), and Racquel Farias (McGill University, Montreal).
The Health Psychology and Behavioural Medicine section of the Canadian Psychology Association generously contributed to a travel award presented to Jillian Johnson of the University of Calgary (Canada).
The 2016 IBTN Conference’s other silver-level sponsors, Concordia University and Université du Québec à Montréal, generously offered venues to hold the two public lectures held on Saturday, May 21. We’d also like to thank the hosts and speakers who generously offered their time and expertise in helping the IBTN in this community outreach effort.
The English-language lecture entitled “Social Media and the Rise in Bad Health Information: Tweets, Posts, and Problems” was held at Concordia University’s BMO Amphitheatre (John Molson Building) and hosted by Charlie Fidelman, Health Reporter for the Montreal Gazette, with invited speakers Dr. Joe Schwarcz, Director of McGill University’s Office for Science and Society and host of “The Dr. Joe Show” on CJAD Montreal, Dr. David Secko, Concordia University Associate Professor and Leader of the Concordia Science Journalism Project, and IBTN Co-Chair Dr. Simon Bacon, Concordia University Professor, Co-Director of the Montreal Behavioural Medicine Centre and Director of the Centre de réadaptation Jean-Jacques-Gauthier at Hôpital Sacré-Cœur de Montréal.
The French-language lecture entitled “La prise en charge de votre maladie chronique: Que pouvez-vous faire pour changer votre vie?” was held at Université du Québec à Montréal Adrien-Pinard Pavilion Amphitheatre with invited speakers Dr. Jean Bourbeau, Pneumologist affiliated with McGill University and Director of the MUHC McConnell Centre for Innovative Medicine, and Dr. Paul Poirier, Cardiologist affiliated with Université Laval, and Chair of the Committee on Obesity of the American Heart Association’s Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism Council.
